Betty Jean Holliday-Butler

Betty Jean Holliday Butler passed away peacefully at the age of 77, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, August 19, 2020.

Betty was born May 26, 1943 in Cairo, Illinois to the late Joe Sr and Mary (Hightower) Turner. Betty was one of seven children and a fraternal twin. The family relocated to Columbus, Ohio where she spent most of her adult life.

Betty attended Columbus Central High school. After her high school years, she worked for a variety of establishments, including Mount Carmel Hospital and Planned Parenthood as a nurse’s assistant. Later Betty served in a managerial position at Northern Lights Deputy Registrar office. That position led her to a role as a Supervisor with the State of Ohio Department of Corrections, from which she retired.

After successfully raising 3 children, Betty married the love of her life Reverend Clyde A. Butler Sr. on May 16, 1992. They were happily married for 17 years until he was called home to glory. They shared a passion for family, traveling and the love for their grandchildren, including the children that she provided childcare for after retirement.

Betty was a devoted member of Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Bishop Jerome H. Ross Sr., where she served as a member of the Angelic Christian Voices. She enjoyed entertaining on both a social and professional level, spending time with her family and playing bid whist! She was a fashionista in her own right and was a no-nonsense type of woman. To know her was to love her!

Betty is proceeded in death by her husband, Reverend Clyde A. Butler Sr.; parents, Joe Sr and Mary Turner; brothers, Joe Turner Jr, David Turner, twin Bobby Turner, and Ali-Abdul Jami; sisters, Mary (Nebraska) White and Josephine Turner; uncle, James Hightower; niece, Vista Turpin; and nephew, Larry Turner.

Betty leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Charles Crawford Jr and Willie Sr. (Joni) Crawford; daughter, Nicole Holliday; sisters-in-law, Deserette Turner, Laticia Turner, and Hana Baahijah; special nieces that “B.B.” called her “girlie girls”, Charlesetta Pennington and Anna Turner, all of Columbus, Ohio; special aunt, Jeanine Hightower; special cousin, Andrea Molsby of Chicago, Illinois; 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren and a host of cousin, nieces, nephews, friends and many prayer warriors.
