Dorothy Lean Moyer

Dorothy Lean Sullens Moyer, a lady of wisdom and generosity, was born on June 2, 1941 in Wilton, Alabama to Walter Sullens and Katherine Hicks Sullens Bell. As the oldest of her seven siblings, Dorothy was a leader and shoulder to lean on within her family.

At the age of 14, Dorothy moved to Columbus, Ohio under the guardianship of her uncle and aunt, Jim and Annie Fisher. Dorothy received Christ at an early age and was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church. After graduating from East High School in 1959, Dorothy continued her education receiving her cosmetologist license in 1962.

Dorothy welcomed three children, Shaun, Freddie Jr, and Debra, with former husband Freddie Moyer Sr. during their 14-year marriage. Dorothy raised her children with love, faith in Christ, and the understanding that knowledge, education, and a strong work ethic were priorities in life.

After 25 years as a cosmetologist, Dorothy succeeded at a new adventure, working at Honda Manufacturing from 1987 until she retired in June of 2005. In 2011, Dorothy began another journey moving to Indianapolis, Indiana with her daughter Shaun and family.

Dorothy had a passion for lending a helping hand whenever, and wherever, it was needed. She was an amazing cook, and she spent many a day bringing family and friends together over her memorable meals. She also enjoyed crocheting and trying her hand at games of chance.

Dorothy, the mother, the sister, the friend, passed on March 1, 2021 in the loving presence of her family at the age of 79. Dorothy will always be remembered for her kind and giving spirit, her quick wit, her loving advice, and her thoughtful proverbs such as “Love is what it does”.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Walter Sullens, her mother Katherine Hicks Sullens Bell, her sister Mary Sullens Ward, and niece Vanessa (Benjamin) Parks.
