Alice Estelle Jackson

Alice Estelle Jackson, 79, passed away on April 4, 2022. Alice was born on June 16, 1942 in Columbus, Ohio to James Langhorne and Olive Hope Langhorne.

She is preceded in death by her parents James and Olive Langhorne; daughter, Melinda “Mindy” Andrea Hudson; son, Garrett Harold Hudson, grandson, Jonathan Daniel Anderson, and brother, Kenneth Langhorne.

Alice is survived by: daughters, Dorinda (Kevin) Church and Alyson Hudson Davis; grandchildren, Damante’ Davis, Lauren Valentine, Corey Davis, and Kecia Henderson; great grandchildren, Taylor Valentine, Elijah Henderson, Jaylen Henderson and Jasmine Henderson; sister, Jane Toni Angel (Kenneth Angel); sister-in-law, Shirley Langhorne; nieces, Christie Angel (Otto Beatty), Cheri Spragan, Kim Coleman (Mark Coleman), Keneisha Thorpe; nephews, Anthony Langhorne, Kenneth James Langhorne, Kenneth Paul Langhorne Jr., Brenton Angel (Katherine Angel), Joey Green (Gina Green), Kenneth Wright, and a host of other family and friends.

Alice retired after 35 years of service at Doctor’s Hospital North. She received many accolades and service award pins for her accomplishments in the medical records department.

You would often find our mother sitting in her favorite chair, solving word puzzles, Soduku and other types of puzzles that challenged and kept her mind sharp. Mommy had that in common with her mother, the Great Ollie, as Lauren called her.

Alice loved to travel with one of her best friends, Josie Williams.  She and Josie cruised, went to the Bahamas, Atlanta, GA, and visited Texas amongst their travels. In her later years, she preferred the comfort of her home,  instead of flying and road trips.  Alice and best friend, Yvonne Reynolds, talked daily and exchanged recipes. Often times, sharing meals with one another.

 Alice loved her family! She was never short on her words of admiration and knowledge. Mommy was elated when her nephew found our family through a DNA match. Alice welcomed him into her heart and home with open arms

She was so proud of her children, grandchildren, and their accomplishments! As much as she loved their company,  and was sad to see them go home, she enjoyed her time to herself.  She always had the company of her fur baby Zorro.  He was spoiled with love, affection, back scratches and lots of doggie treats. He was always right by her side, waiting for the next back rub. Zorro was her faithful companion.  His alerts gave reason for her neighbors, Ms. Janice and Mrs. Harris, cause to contact her daughters, enabling them to be at her side in her final moments.

Alice attended church at St. Matthias Catholic Church, prior to COVID.  Prior to attending St. Matthias, the family attended St. Augustine. It was at this church that she met the McGarvey family.  They have been part of our extended family for decades.  Their love for her mother (Ollie The Great), and our mother was as genuine as was her love for them.

Mommy was known for her love of jewelry.  She had rings on every finger, enough bracelets to crack her wrist, and layered necklaces. In her forties, Mommy was admitted to the hospital for a basic medical procedure.  They informed her she had to remove her jewelry. It took them 45 minutes to remove.

Our mother had a joyous infectious laugh.  Her love of life was always apparent.  She always reminded us, that she would ALWAYS live independently, in her OWN home, until God called her home. Mommy was a woman of her word.
