Annie Belle Horn

Annie Belle Horn was born April 18, 1931 in Hazelhurst, Mississippi to Samuel Felix and Mattie Lewis. She grew up on a spacious, beautiful farm with her three siblings, but always had a desire to explore other parts of the country. After attending high school she moved to Chicago, Illinois and studied nursing. It was there that she met and married Sgt. Willie C. Horn in July, 1952. To this union was born six children. Annie enjoyed her life as an Air Force military wife and mother which afforded her opportunities to travel throughout the United States, including Puerto Rico. They made their home in Columbus, Ohio after her husband retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant, completing 20 years of service.

Several of Annie’s children and grandchildren have also pursued military careers. Her family was her pride and joy. She encouraged all of her children to get an education, learn to make a good living and help others in need. The family matriarch, she was lovingly referred to as mamama by all of the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a passionate prayer warrior who loved her family which extended to many others in the church and community. No one in the family would even think about travelling until they called upon mamama to pray travelling mercies over them. A church mother in every sense of the word, she was always offering encouragement, wisdom, love and advice. Mother Horn truly loved her church and pastor. She served faithfully as a pastor’s aide, missionary and Higher Ground church mother as long as her health allowed.

Mother Annie Horn is preceded in death by her husband and parents; siblings, Felix S. Lewis, Dorothy McMillan and C. S. Lewis; daughter, Katherine Horn and grandson, Yon Armstrong.
