Anthony "Tony" Carter

Anthony Julius Carter, better known as "Tony," departed this life on October 25, 2024, to be with the Lord. He had been a resident of Columbus Colony for Elderly Care since November of 2023. Tony was educated in the Columbus School District. During high school, his first job was delivering papers with The Columbus Dispatch. Later, he worked as a laborer installing power lines within 32 states. Tony never married or had children, his nieces and nephews were his children. He gave up traveling to become his parents' caregiver. Tony loved his family deeply and would do anything for them. Tony NEVER met a stranger. Tony gave his life to Christ many years ago. He was a member of Word Alive World Ministries and rarely missed a service where he was a greeter passing out candy to the children. Tony's favorite football team was the Kansas City Chiefs, and he had absolutely no problem reminding us they were back-to-back super bowl champs. His favorite TV show was The Price is Right, and he enjoyed watching Westerns. If there was a cookout, Tony was sure to be there. He was well known for singing the song "Sixteen Candles" to women on their birthdays. He NEVER missed the opportunity to give someone a card on any occasion. Tony is preceded in death by his biological parents, James Earl Carter and Mattie Julia Garrett, his beloved stepfather Arthur James Garrett Sr. who came into his life at age 14, his brother Lloyd Howard Carter, his brother-in-law Edward "Ted" Lewis, his sisters-in-law, Sandra Easter Carter, and Pamela Sue Carter, his niece Lavette Lunsford, and his nephew Lavelle Carter. He leaves to cherish his memories his brothers, Philip Irvin Carter and Arthur James (Deborah) Garrett Jr, his sisters Phyllis Maureen Lewis, and Kathy Ann Garrett, his honorary sister Hazel Carolyn Kerr and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
