Anthony Tyrone Davis

June 1, 1955 — September 28, 2024

Middletown

Anthony Tyrone Davis was born on June 1, 1955, in Middletown, Ohio to Joseph Davis and Margie M. Davis. His death was unexpected however, he passed away peacefully and gained his wings September 28, 2024. He was 69 years old.

Tony attended Dayton City Schools for a brief time, but the family later moved to Middletown, Ohio where he received his high school diploma from Middletown High School in 1973. He played city league baseball and gave up his high school basketball position because he refused to cut his afro.

Upon graduating from high school, Tony went on to further his education at Kent State University. After that, he attended Broadcasting School in Dayton, Ohio. In 1978, he enlisted and served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged from active duty and transferred to the naval reserve. He was married first to Jan Swaggerty (deceased) and later to Lisa Graham.

He was a long-time Veterans Affairs employee for the Prosthetics Department in Columbus, Ohio where he retired in 2016 and began to enjoy what he called ‘his days of freedom’. Tony didn’t bite his tongue for anyone, but he was a gentle giant. He loved to play chess and always had a board and chess pieces in tow. He would challenge anyone to a game, and if he lost, his opponent had to give him a rematch with no questions asked. In addition to chess, he loved dominoes and enjoyed having a good time with family and childhood friends Kevin Hubbard, Alfie Stallworth, Kenny Williams and Gene Walker (deceased) to name a few. Since his retirement, Tony was active in family events, traveling, and going to games. He was passionate about sports. He loved basketball and football and was an avid Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Browns fan, but he also enjoyed the rivalry with Bengal fans, specifically his brother Tommy as well as Steelers fans, Lakesha, Melody and George. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family near and far. He was a loving and caring son, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was willing to go the extra mile and help whenever he could. Tony was very laid back and was a simple man by choice.

He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Davis, maternal grandparents, Roosevelt and Flora Bass, fraternal grandparents, James Davis and Mary Brown and most recently his sister Margo (Kevin) Jackson.

He is survived by his mother Margie Davis, daughter LaTisha Cottman, son Jerrmiah (Amanda) Wright, daughter LeAngela Davis (Martin) sisters Sabrina (Donald) Holmes, Gail Davis, Thomas (Kelly) Davis, grandchildren Jazming Castillo, Jerrmaih Wright Jr, Gianna Wright, Cadence Wright, twins Liv Melius and Lea Melius and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Tony will forever be missed.
