Betty Jo Smith

Betty Jo Smith, the youngest of 2 girls and an adopted brother, was born to Charles and Alma Wise on March 5, 1953, in Morgantown West Virginia where she was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist church.

Betty attended Morgantown High School and right after high school she enrolled in West Virginia University where she attended college for two years. Right after college, she moved to Columbus Ohio in 1975 where she had worked several jobs. She found her career with Ranco Controls, where she worked 30 faithful years until her retirement. While working, she met and made a lot of friends that she loved dearly.

Betty’s interests included reading books, doing crafts, and she was known to be a lover of dogs.

Betty met the love of her life in 1983, James Skip Smith, and they were married in 1987. Together they raised three beautiful children and were married for 36 years until her passing.

Betty leaves behind to cherish her memories, husband James Skip Smith; children, Jamie Smith III, Jermaine (Casey) Jennings, and Lena Smith; sister, Carol Heard; brother, Lloyd Wilson; best friend, BJ Prior (who was like a sister); nephews, Charles CV (Lawanda) Wise, Sean and Nicki Wise; 8 grandchildren, Semaj, Savior, Royce, Joell, Janiece, Javea, Jermaine ll, and Jermeal; several great nieces, nephews and a slew of friends.

Betty is preceded in death by father, Charles V Wise; mother, Alma Wise; father-in-law, James T Smith Sr.; and cousin, Mary Jennings. Betty Jo Smith will always be remembered for her enduring love for her family and friends.

Visitation 10:00am and Funeral 11:00am Monday, May 16, 2022 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH, 2500 Cleveland Ave.
