Bettye J. Howard

Bettye Jean Howard went home to be with the Lord on October 27, 2018 at OSU Wexner Medical Center. After a long and tiring battle with surgery recovery, Bettye fought the good fight of faith and WON!

Bettye was born to on July 22, 1950 in Mobile, Alabama to her parents Claudia Belle Morris and Willis Mose Jr, who preceded her in death. Claudia bore thirteen children of which eight survived; Clarence (Ida) Ely (deceased), Virgle (James) Buskey, Clauselle Ely Jr (deceased), Marvin (Deloris) Ely (deceased), Mable (James) Williams, Bessie Mae White, and Carolyn (Richard) Irby.

Bettye was raised by her paternal grandparents, Willis and Laura Mose in Gosport, Alabama. As a little girl, Bettye spent lots of time down the road from her grandparents with Emma Mose (Big Mama) and her three children, George, Estele, and Katie. She also attended school with her twin siblings Marvin and Mable.  Bettye graduated from Wilson Hall High School in Grove Hill, Alabama in 1968.

Upon graduation Bettye moved to Columbus, Ohio. On July 21st, 1984 Bettye married Leon Howard and the two began a long loving journey together through life.  Bettye worked at OSU and St. Anthony’s hospital.  They gave birth to their precious bundle of joy, Latasha Renea, on September 23rd, 1987. Throughout her life Bettye was a loving, committed wife to Leon, even up until he parted this earth in March of 2016.  Bettye was a caring and selfless mother.  She spent most of her time enjoying her daughter and grandchildren, proudly supporting them throughout their lives.

Bettye leaves behind to mourn her daughter Latasha, and grandchildren Lanaisha, Jeremiah, and London, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

Visitation 6:00pm and Funeral 7:00pm Friday November 2, 2018 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH 2500 Cleveland Ave.
