Brent Porter

Brent Maynard Porter was born in Columbus, Ohio to his parents George and Marcella Porter on July 18, 1969. He was educated in the South-Western City Schools system and graduated from Westland High School in 1987. Brent’s computer programming and technology career expanded over 30 years, including highlighted positions working as a Manager for Data Center Operations at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital, as an Advisory Architect for Global Technology Services with International Business Machines (IBM) Corporation to also being self-employed as an Information Technology Contractor. Alongside his successful career, within his community he became an advocate for SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) research and in honor of his twin daughters, he became the president of the central Ohio SIDS chapter from 1990 – 1992.

As a young man, Brent Porter was a highly intelligent person who enjoyed sharing his insights and thoughts of life. Brent had a strong love for sports, especially football, at all levels from the youth league to Pro Football. Brent’s favorite college football team was the Ohio State Buckeyes, and was a very passionate, dedicated fan that no matter how well they performed, he was always there for his team. Brent, who was affectionately called “BP” by many, had a passion for jazz music and of the many artists he enjoyed listening to, Marcus Miller was one of his favorites. He was a food enthusiast that enjoyed exploring many different cuisines. BP’s favorite pastime was playing the game of pool, especially with friends and his brother Phillip. When Brent won, he made sure you knew he won. His other passions included cars, action movies, playing bingo and spending time with family and loved ones. On Saturday, December 28th, 2024, at the age of 55, Brent Porter was called home to be with the Lord. 

He is proceeded in death by George and Marcella Porter (parents) and his daughters Brittney and Vanessa Porter. Brent is survived by his siblings Cheryl Porter, George (Janet) Porter, Phillip (Jamie) Porter, Fannie Porter, Jason Porter, Brian Porter, Quintin Porter (Halima) and a host of nieces, nephews, goddaughter Breanna Long and special friend Demaris Bland.
