Carolyn was a woman of great strength and determination. She leaves behind a legacy of caring and devotion.

She built upon her high school diploma by attend the Columbus Paraprofessional Institute earning a professional certification as a Medical Assistant. Afterward, she earned an additional certification in Information Systems-Word Processing. As a life-long learner, she was a shining example of perseverance to her family and friends. Carolyn gave nothing less than best throughout her career, including serving as an administrative assistant at Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority and retiring from a similar role with the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities at West Central School and Transition Services for students ages 14-22.

Family was at the core of Carolyn’s life, and she cherished every moment spent with loved ones. Surviving children are Michael E. (Angela) Straughter and Marvin E. Straughter, who were a source of pride and joy for Carolyn. She will be fondly remembered by her sister, Betty Lou Nelson; grandchildren, Mark N. Carolyn had a passion for serving as a “marching band mom”, puzzle-solving, gardening, and engrossing herself in captivating crime and court TV shows. Her culinary talents were unparalleled. Family and friends will always crave her delectable potato salad, deviled eggs, and infamous lasagna — all complemented with her pineapple upside down cake.

It is her memory that we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by love, laughter, and a steadfast commitment to family and friends. As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember and find solace in the beautiful moments shared.

May your soul find eternal warmth and tranquility.
