Carolyn F. Russell, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend was called Home to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024. As a beautiful child of God, she loved and was loved by so many. Carolyn was surrounded by her loved ones when she took her journey Home.
Carolyn was born on February 1, 1934, to George F. Hill and Leanna Mason Hill in Charleston WV. She was the second child of nine born to this union. At the time of her passing she was 90 years old.
Carolyn was educated in Kanawha County Schools, attended Dunbar Elementary, Cabell Junior High and was a proud 1952 graduate from Garnet High School. She was a cheerleader and a member of the women's basketball team where she exceled at the sport and was an intricate part in their success.
On November 4, 1957, Carolyn married the love of her life Matthew Russell Jr. Together they were blessed with one daughter and two sons.
At an early age, Carolyn, worked as a shoeshine girl at the Greyhound Bus Terminal. Additionally, she provided janitorial services at the Embelton Building on Quarrier Street alongside her Uncle Jim. Carolyn, retired from JP Morgan Chase Bank with 20 plus years of service.
Carolyn gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of Abundant Life Ministries until she moved to Georgia. Carolyn was a faithful member and sang in the church choir.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Mathew Russell Jr; parents, George F Hill and Leanna Mason Hill; sisters, Truscilla (Kitty) Berger and Elise L. Anderson; and brothers, James Thomas Hill and George W. Hill.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Ronald) Ross; sons, Matthew (Kelly) Russell and Mikael (Chelsey) Russell; a special nephew, Marcel Reeder; sisters, Eunice Hill-Hall, Brenda A. Hardy and Nina K. Hill; brother, Leonard A. Hill (Patricia); brother-in-law, Frank B. Russell; three (3) granddaughters, Kiona Ronnea, Maurianna and Malana; one (1) grandson, Astro; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held July 13, 2024, at Abundant Life Ministries, 1534 Washington Street E, Charleston, WV. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to Noon. The Celebration of Life will begin promptly at 12 Noon with Bishop Wayne Crozier, Eulogist.
