Charles A. Coleman

Charles Ashley Coleman affectionately known as C.A., Dad, Uncle Chuck, Papa C. is the sixth child born to his late parents John Franklin Jr. and Mabel W. Blair Coleman in the year of our Lord 1944.

He accepted Christ and was baptized at age 12 at the New Century United Methodist Church in Harriman Tennessee. Charles was very active in the church and attended Sunday school and church services every Sunday and sung in the youth and adult choir. Charles attended Jamieson Elementary School and was graduated from Campbell High School in 1962. He was elected Class president during those years played on the football team, served on the student council, sung in the high school chorale, and represented the school at the annual Tennessee Student Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.

As a youth Charles was very active in the community working with the Afro-American baseball league, The Durell Tigers. He played on the youth baseball team worked extensively with the American Legion in organizing social events for the community. As an adult, C.A. had the honor of coaching many young men and family members on the Mifflin Golden Sharks football team.

He always swore the Coleman smile and loved people and knew no strangers. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He was an avid reader and historian. Charles served his country for four years in the United Stated Air Force with tours of duty in Japan, Europe, Texas, and South Carolina.

He is proceeded in death by his brothers Wayne R. Coleman, Franklin B. Coleman, Glenn F. Coleman and sister Willard J. Coleman Thombs; his grandparents, John F. Sr. and Hattie E. Burch Coleman, and Susan Blair; great grandparents Frank and Phyllis A. Siler Blair, and Robert A. and Caroline Hairston Coleman.

He will be forever cherished as a loving husband and father to his wife of 46 years, Beverly A. Coleman, son; Scott A. Coleman (Donata), Daughter; Shala M. Dalton (David), grandchildren; Kenny, Robert, Jordan, Ashlynn and Dorian, brothers; Don F. Coleman (Sheena), Douglas Coleman (Natalie), sisters-in-law; Shirley A. Coleman and Ruth Coleman, brothersbrothers-in-law; Valance L. Smith (JoAnne), Robert B. Smith (Monica), and mother-in-law Dorothy E. Smith.

Visitation 11:00AM and Funeral Service 12:00PM Saturday, February 1, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.
