Chester L. Davis Sr.

Mr. Chet L. Davis was born on September 18, 1945 to Deacon Haynes L. Davis and Deaconess Rosa L Davis. He transitioned to his Heavenly home on July 28, 2022 in Columbus, Ohio.

Chet was the 9th child of a family of eleven children, 9 boys and two girls. Both of Chet’s parents and 8 siblings preceded him in death.

He was born in Banner Holler, WV in a lovely, sheltered valley of mountains and streams near Charleston, WV, where coal mining was considered “king.” When coal mines closed, his parents relocated the family to Columbus, Ohio where his father found work on the railroad. At this time, Chet was a very young child, age 7. This is where Chet grew up and lived the remainder of his life. He attended Linmoor Jr. High, and Linden McKinley High School, where he excelled as a student. As a youth Chet was an avid Little League baseball and basketball player, winning many trophies. His most prized award was when he won the “Boy of the year” award. Chet was an avid Cleveland Brown fan as well as THE Ohio State Buckeyes.

He also loved to fish with his family. He had a beautiful singing voice. He was often the lead soloist in his church choir, Columbus Bible Way Church. As a young man, Chet travelled the United States with a three-man singing group, Camelot, as the opening act for Bill Doggett, an American Jazz and Blues pianist, and as backup singer to musical genius, Edwin Starr.

Chet had a long and successful career at Ohio Malleable Iron Co., Columbus, OH. For a few years Chet moved to Atlanta, GA as Vice President of Operations and Sales at Excel Janitorial Services, Inc, specializing in health care. Although very successful in this position, Chet eventually returned to his hometown.

He was married for 48 years to his lovely wife Robbin Davis, who he leaves to mourn. Throughout Chet’s long illness Robbin was at his side caring for him and loving him and at his hospital bedside when he transitioned to his heavenly home. This is a true example of the Biblical scripture “until death do us part!” Romans 7:2-3.

Chet was the father of four amazing children, two girls and two boys: Lisa Davis, Chet Jr. (Ana), Nikki Davis, Anthony (Elizabeth) of Noblesville, IN, stepdaughter, Trisha Sias, and a wonderful legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Chet also had many nieces and nephews as well as a long-time best friend, JD Downey. Chet loved his puppies as well. He also leaves to mourn him, his sister, Doris Webster (Thomas) of Atlanta, GA, brother Ron Davis of Dallas, TX, brother in law, Paul Stimmel (Lynda) of Dayton, OH and sister in law, Terry McClung (David) of Buckeye Lake, OH.
