Cortez David Lamont Anderson

Cortez David Lamont Anderson was born on Saturday, June 14, 1958, at 5:28pm, in Columbus, Ohio, at St. Anns Hospital. He was the son of Phil and Marveen E. Anderson. God called Cortez home to eternal peace with no more pain and suffering, on November 30, 2023, at the age of sixty-five.

Cortez (Corky) as family and close friends called him, was a graduate of East High School in Columbus, Ohio, where he ran long distance in track and field, he took up auto mechanics and earned a Full Scholarship in Engineering.

For the last ten years, Corky excelled in his dream career as an over-the-road semi-tractor trailer driver, where he enjoyed his passion of driving across this country. Corky had a venturous soul. He “lived life on the edge” as he would say, and he was extremely particular about his appearance and possessions. He was a very loving and affectionate man who loved his family and had a protective nature about himself to keep his family safe. He had a special place in his heart for all animals, especially his beloved fur babies, (Phoebe Momma and Sugar Bear). He was that family member who was loved by many and probably never met a stranger. He had a witty sense of humor about himself, and he was always smiling. He never shied away from being in front of the camera.

Corky was welcomed home by his father, Phil Anderson; son, Chad McClendon; paternal grandparents, Phil “Jack” and Rosie Anderson; maternal grandparents, Oliver L. and Annie M. Sharp; sister, Terry L. McAfee; and brother, Lonnie Nichols.

Corky leaves to cherish his memories and carry on his legacy, his mother Marveen E. Anderson; eight children, Thomas and Cassie Arline, Khara Fitgerald, Summer Green, Cortez Green, Armani Anderson of Columbus, Ohio, Marcello Viliborghi, Annabella Anderson, and Ayden Anderson of Bellefontaine, Ohio.

Also cherishing Corky’s memory are his remaining siblings, Stanley Anderson, Rhonda Anderson Reese (Jurado Reese), Kareem Anderson, Deborah Kutsy all of Columbus, Ohio, and Tia Murray of Las Vegas, Nevada; fourteen grandchildren, Jayla, Tamia, Jayden, James, Chadsyti, Kamre’, Khara, Marco, Milan, Amelia, Marley, Leo, Chanel and Armani, Jr.; special niece, Tamika McAfee of Florida; special aunts, LaGreta Johnson and Lillian Bennett of Columbus, Ohio.

“I know not where his island’s listed, their fronded palms in air. I only know I cannot go beyond God’s love and care.”

The life of Cortez is loved and cherished by many family members, loved ones and special friends that he would drop in on at any given time. He cared deeply for the people around him and made an impact on all our lives. He will be forever missed.

Visitation 6:00 PM and Funeral Service 7:00 PM Friday, December 8, 2023 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd).
