Curtis Thomas Jr.

Curtis Thomas, Jr., age 69, was born in Rome, Georgia on March 29, 1948 to Arvella and  the late Curtis Thomas, Sr.   On Tuesday, August 29, 2017 an angel  of God stopped by Riverside Hospital to escort him home to be with the Lord.

Curtis was raised and educated in Columbus, Ohio graduating from Marion Franklin High School in 1966.  Subsequently he served in the United States Army four years where he  was stationed in Vietnam during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged thereafter.  On May 22, 1971 he married the love of his life, Brenda Tanyhill.  God blessed this union with the addition of a beautiful daughter, Tracy Michele Thomas.

Curtis was employed by Martin Brower Manufacturing for over 25 years until their closing. Most recently he was gainfully employed by Volvo Parts North America where he retired in 2013.  He served as national and local president of the Jones Family Reunion.   He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with  family and friends laughing, joking, and teaching them life lessons.  Family vacations were extremely special to him.  He also loved watching the Buckeyes and the Dallas Cowboys play and loved every moment he spent with his granddaughter Avery.  Affectionately called “Curt”, he was a loving husband, strong father, the greatest grandfather, the coolest uncle, and the best friend.

Curtis accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior and was baptized at an early age. He was a member of Second Shiloh Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board and the Men’s Brotherhood Ministry.  He passionately served as “Grill Master” at the church picnics and other events. A prior member of the Men’s Choir, he was always blessed by their singing.  He loved God and his church.

He is preceded in death by his father, Curtis Thomas, Sr., mother in-law, Ruth Tanyhill, and father in-law David Tanyhill Sr., brothers-in–law William “Freddie” Morris, and Pastor David Tanyhill Jr.

Curtis leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Brenda, daughter Tracy (Tyson) Ewing; granddaughter, Avery; mother, Arvella Thomas; brothers, Tyrone and Greg (Deborah) , sisters; Clara, Lucille, Jeanette and Patsy, special nephews Kevin Thomas and William Morris, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including Bobbi and George Hannah.
