Deacon Saunders Wiseman Carson

The Obituary

DEACON SAUNDERS WISEMAN CARSON, “Sonny” aka “Dad Carson,” finished his course on Sunday, March 29, 2020. Saunders was born to Jesse and Mozelle Carson on Wednesday, August 21, 1935, in Pulaski, Virginia. He was a student of Gary District High School in Gary, West Virginia. Saunders was a US Air Force Veteran. Following his service to his country, he was employed by Ohio Dayton Malleable, Inc., where he worked for a number of years until the foundry close. He then was employed by the Upper Arlington School Board.

During a picnic at Buckeye Lake, Mr. Saunders Wiseman Carson was introduced to the love of his life, Miss Faynella Hilton. They courted for several years and on December 17, 1960, the two were united in holy matrimony. The well-being of his family was his top priority. Saunders was an excellent provider who often worked extra hours so that Faynella could remain home with the children. Saunders took great joy in providing memorable Christmases and wonderful family vacations.

Saunders accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and united with Trinity Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Dr. E. A. Parham. A member for over 58 years, Brother Carson served faithfully as a Deacon, Trustee, and over 40 years as the Church Treasurer. He labored in the vineyard until his health would not permit. In his early years, he served as a leader in the Adult Sunday School. Saunders faithfully attended Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting and Bible Study. He was affectionately called “Dad Carson” for his wisdom, knowledge, and love for people. Dad Carson was a man that you sought out for consultation for he always spoke the truth.

Deacon Saunders W. Carson was blessed with 84 years of life. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William Carson, Milton Carson, and Mike Carson and sisters, Dorothy Landers and Pauline Wilson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 59 years, Faynella Carson; sons, Reginald Carson, Pastor Eric C. Carson, and Minister Gregory Carson, Sr.; “Earthly daughter,” Jernica Fitz; siblings, Caleb (Marlene) Carson, Geraldine Russell, and Ramona Y. Wilson; grandchildren, Lyndsy (Alassondro) Roberts, Joy Carson, Gregory Carson Jr., Danniell Carson of Washington D.C., Daren (Sheena) Carson, Monika Willis, Shernika (Lamont) Fountain, and Tanika (Kwasi) Holder; brothers-in-law, Robert O. (Bobbie Jean) Hilton, Booker T. Hilton of Hattisburg, Mississippi, Charlie Hilton of Westwego, Louisiana; eight great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
