Deacon William E. Mccorvey

Celebration of Life Deacon William Earl McCorvey son of the late Joseph and Fannie Mae McCorvey. He was born June 12, 1957, in Pensacola, FL, and was received to eternal life on Sunday, October 23, 2022, in Columbus, OH. William was one of 8 siblings raised in a home of love; his siblings fondly recall his childhood being filled with laughter.

He was known as a jokester amongst siblings and friends and one of the kindest people you would ever meet. At an early age he displayed an exceptional mathematical ability and a keen memory, he would solve complex mathematical equations and quote Shakespeare effortlessly. As a child he loved his mother’s cooking so much so that he would mix his grits, cake, and sweet potato pie for a delicious meal. Williams academic excellence led him to complete in the top of his class at Lillie B. Williamson High School in Mobile, AL. He would go on to complete his Associates Degree from Bishop State Jr. College in 1977. He was awarded a full scholarship to Howard University in Washington, D.C where he matriculated in the Chemical Engineering summer program for two consecutive summers. Fall of ’78 he enrolled in the University of Alabama Pre- Engineering program and attended until spring ’79.

In the spring of ‘79 he moved to Columbus, OH, it was here he met the love of his life Jannie Stevens. They were married in June of 1989 and shared a life of love until her passing in 2002. William was a lover of Christ, a beloved family man, an accomplished Master Brick Mason, and an avid Cowboys football fan. January 29, 1995, he joined Saint Luke Baptist Church in Columbus, OH, it was here under the spiritual leadership of Pastor A.C Allen and his wife Rose Allen, he flourished spiritually. William would study his Bible and spread the word of Christ faithfully to family, friends, his workers, and strangers. He offered the word of Christ as a healing balm for those in need and rose to be a faithful leader in his church and community.

He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Fannie Mae McCorvey, wife Jannie McCorvey, grandson Abel Phelps, sister Vernise McCorvey, nephews Barry McCorvey, and Terrell McCorvey. He leaves to cherish four daughters Valdamien Daniels, Shawnda (Marcus Bolano) McCorvey, Tera McCorvey, Anika McCorvey, and his beloved grandchildren Matthew Ayers, Margaret “Maggie” Huntley, King Daniels, Anthony Phelps, Aniyah Kendrick, Miles Bolano.

He leaves six devoted siblings, Volentina (Arthur Sr.) Williams, Victoria White, Joseph Jr. McCorvey, Patrick (Darlene) McCorvey, Jacqueline (Edd) Betton, Debra Ann (Dale) Moulds and a host of nephews and nieces.

Visitation 9:00 AM and Funeral Service 10:00 AM Saturday, November 5, 2022 at St. Luke Baptist Church, 1660 E. Main St.

Interment at Eastlawn Cemetery.
