Donna Marie Thornwell

Donna Marie Thornwell was born on November 1, 1957, in Columbus, Ohio, to Ophelia Peacock and James Ray Thornwell Sr. She departed this life on Tuesday, August 21, 2024, at the age of 66. 

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Ophelia Peacock and James Ray Thornwell Sr.; her grandmother, Mary Moss; her grandfather, Elwood Moss; her uncle, Joseph Woods; and her nephew, Yauncey Carter. 

Donna graduated from South High School in Columbus, Ohio, and retired from the City of Columbus after 35 years of dedicated service. She was an Auditor who loved her work, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a passion for numbers.

Donna also retired from Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) after 5 years of service. Donna devoted much of her life to her friends, family, and her long-time partner, Marcus Jimmerson. Though she had no children of her own, she shared a special bond with her baby sister, Kim, her nephew, Marquise, and her nieces, Maya and Mica. Donna was affectionately known as Kim’s “Mother-Sister,” stepping into the role of protector and guiding her sister with love and wisdom. Her life lessons, humorous quotes, loyalty, and strong faith will be deeply missed. 

She leaves behind her brothers, James Ray Thornwell Jr. (Debi Thornwell) and Nathaniel Thornwell; step-brother, Michael Jeter; her sisters, Dr. Tonya Nooks and Kim Caine (Thomas I. Caine IV). Donna also leaves behind her beloved partner, Marcus; her nephews, Jason, Ryan, Brandon, Jordan, and Marquise; her nieces, Yalonda, Yavaye, Breaunna, Jasmine, Maya, Mica, Gabrielle, Ophelia, and Mynia; as well as other loving family members and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends. 

The family extends special thanks to Sarita Marshall and Evangelist Valeria Terry for their help and support throughout Donna’s journey.
