In Loving Memory of Dorothy Jean Owens

Dorothy Jean Owens, a woman of strength, faith, and unwavering love, peacefully passed away on November 12, 2023, at her residence in Columbus, Ohio, at the age of 84. She was born on April 1, 1939, in Athens, Alabama, to her devoted parents John and Idell Shoulders.

Dorothy’s legacy lives on through her loving children: son Bryant (Mattie Lockett) Owens, daughters Krystal (Robert) Knox, and Michelle (Link Sr.) Briggs. She is also remembered fondly by her sisters Nancy Sanderfer and Jean Luckie, and brother Joe Shoulders.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, John Jr., Leo and Mary.

Dorothy dedicated her working life to the automobile manufacturing industry, where she served as an assembly liner worker for Newman Technology. Her dedication, hard work, and commitment were renowned by her colleagues and earned her respect throughout her career. Though she retired, Dorothy continued to embody the values of diligence and determination that defined her life.

Dorothy loved spending time with her family and loved making them smile with the delicious meals she prepare with love. Every pastor that led Mt. Hermon Baptist Church were blessed to have been fed by Sis. Dorothy Owens at her home.

She possessed a deep love for her family, especially her cherished grandchildren: Briana Granger, Brandi Bobo, Alexis Briggs, Link Briggs Jr., Jasmine Briggs, and Eric Briggs. Her great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Martin, Larry McPhail, and Kehlani Briggs, held a special place in her heart.

Dorothy found solace and inspiration in her faith, often reading her cherished Bible and attending Sunday School at Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church. She found strength and comfort in her spiritual journey, and she lived by the words found in Psalm 23, which guided her throughout her life.

Friends and family are invited to honor and celebrate the life of Dorothy Jean Owens. Visitation will be held on Friday November 17, 2023, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church 292 Charles St.. The funeral service will be held at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church on Saturday November 18, 2023, at 9:30 am.

Following the funeral service, Dorothy will be laid to rest at Mansfield Cemetery

As we bid farewell to Dorothy, let us celebrate her vibrant spirit, her dedication to her family, and the impact she made on all who were blessed to know her. May her memory be a beacon of love and inspiration that will continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
