Dorothy L. Rawls-Still, was born February 1, 1948, in Mansfield, Ohio and passed away February 22, 2025 surrounded by love. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who touched countless lives with her generosity and kindness.
Dorothy graduated from Malabar High School in Mansfield, Ohio in 1966. In 1968, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she built a life centered around her children and family. She married Paul Still Jr. in May 1971, and together they built a family rooted in resilience and dedication, ensuring their children had the foundation to succeed.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse James Rawls Jr. and Anna Wilma Rawls, and her siblings, Danny (Evelyn) Rawls, Phyllis (Art) Jackson, and Harold “Frank” Rawls, step-son, Marcus Tynes, and great-nephew Dameon Jackson.
She leaves behind a loving legacy in her sister, Wilma “Botcho” Rawls; her children, Dante (Ronda) Still, Shana (Antoine) Sankey, and Paul Still III; her bonus son, Corey Davis (Francine); her cherished grandchildren, Desiree (Calien) Scott, KaêLa Still, Chase Gray-Still, Cameryn (Brandon) Still, and Nya Washington; beloved great-grandchildren, Calien Scott Jr. and Cylie Scott, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Dorothy grew up in Shiloh Baptist Church in Mansfield, Ohio where she was active in Sunday School, the Baptist Training Unit, and the Junior Choir. Faith was a guiding force in her life, and she upheld the family motto that Sundays were for church, attending services in the morning, afternoon, and evening.
Dorothy was a true entrepreneur, dedicating much of her life to caring for children through her daycare business. She had a deep love for kids and treated every child she encountered as her own, nurturing them with boundless love and affection.
She was known for her beauty—though she never acknowledged it herself—and for her spirited personality. Contrary yet kind, she had a heart that gave endlessly to those she loved. She prioritized her children and grandchildren above all else, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and warmth.
In her later years, Dorothy became a homebody, rarely seen without her beloved Pepsi in hand. She cherished family gatherings, especially game nights, where she reigned as the undisputed Queen of Phase 10, Spades, and Tunk. Her grandchildren, both biological and bonus, affectionately knew her as “Nana,” a name that carried love, comfort, and countless treasured memories.
Dorothy Still was a light in the lives of all who knew her. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering love will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
