In Loving Memory of Edna Mae Washington

Edna Mae Washington, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2023, at the age of 73. Born on July 15, 1950, in Lake Charles, LA to Freddie and Hazel Walker, Edna Mae grew up in a close-knit community where her caring nature and infectious laughter touched the lives of everyone she met.

Edna Mae was a devoted member of Mt Hermon Missionary Baptist Church, where she found solace and joy singing in the choir. Her soulful voice resonated throughout the sanctuary, uplifting those around her. Alongside her church family, she shared her gift of singing, spreading hope and inspiration to all who gathered to worship.

Though she possessed a kind and giving heart, Edna Mae’s true passion lay in her family. Her husband of many years, James Washington, Sr., was her rock and constant source of support. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Edna Mae’s children, Falando Sharpe, James D. (Kristen) Washington Jr., and Erica M. (Eric) Grandjean, were the lights of her life, and she found immense joy and pride in their accomplishments.

Edna Mae’s love extended to her grandchildren, Kendall, Kacie, Kyrie, Krista, James III, Kennedy, KaMyah, Bryce, Zafar, and Brittany, who brought endless delight and laughter into her world. She cherished every moment shared with them, eager to impart wisdom and guide them along their paths.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Darrick Sharpe, sister, Glenda Thomas and brothers, Matthew, Alfred, Loyad and Issac Walker

Family meant everything to Edna Mae, and she had a special bond with her sister, Laura DeBose, and brothers, Freddie Walker Jr., James (Elva) Walker and Gregory Walker. They shared countless memories and unconditional support throughout the years, forming bonds that stood the test of time.

Edna Mae’s love for life extended beyond her family. She enjoyed lively games of bingo and the thrill of casinos, always embracing the excitement each round brought. A dedicated dominos player, she often joined in friendly competitions, creating cherished moments of camaraderie with friends and loved ones.

A renowned pillar of her community, Edna Mae’s benevolence knew no bounds. She possessed a giving spirit, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Whether it was offering the shirt off her back or ensuring that no one in her community went hungry, Edna Mae’s generosity knew no limits.

On November 21, 2023, at 11:00 am, friends and family will gather at Mt Hermon Missionary Baptist Church to pay their final respects to Edna Mae Washington. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held at the church at 10:00 am, serving as a time for reflection, support, and shared memories of a life well-lived. Interment at Evergreen Burial Park.
