Edward Lee Dorsey, Sr

Edward Lee Dorsey, Sr., known as “BeBop” and “Eddie D”, was born June 4, 1946, in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Surrounded by his loving family, he transitioned peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 16, 2022. He was blessed with 76 years of life. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Hermon AME Church in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was a member at Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, OH, where he sang in the choir and was known for his tenor voice.

 

Edward graduated from Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Class of 64’ “GO PANTHERS”.  Due to the state of the country, Edward entered the US Armed Forces and served in the Army and was stationed in Korea where he proudly served. Edward earned a degree in Journalism and Broadcasting from Franklin University in Columbus, OH.

 

Edward retired from General Motors. He was an avid sports figure in softball, basketball, and touch football. Edward was a renaissance man.

 

Edward had a loving demeanor, contagious personality, unconditional love of rhis family, and never met a stranger

 

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Lee and Christine Dorsey; wife, Marie Howard Dorsey; sister, Lindsey Mae Henry; stepbrothers, David and ReNorris Sharpe; and stepsisters, Johnnie Mae, Barbara and Kathleen Sharpe.

 

Cherishing his memory are his loving children, Sonji McNary, Edward L. Dorsey, Jr. (Tabitha), Chanta Trout (Leroy Anthony); granddaughters, Lakeshia Dorsey, Brianna McNary, Alana Dorsey, Candace Long, Mikayla McNary, and Shania Long; great grandchildren, Javeon Berry, Nyasia Miller, Niko Miller, Jr., and Legend Moore; brother, Willie Lee Dorsey, Jr.; step-brother, Gary Sharpe; sister-in-law, Idell Turner (George); brothers-in-law, Theodore and James Howard; and a host of relatives and friends.

 

Edward will be forever missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

 

Visitation 5:00pm and Funeral 6:00pm Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church, 2283 Sunbury Rd.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3201 NW 19th Street Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311
