Elder Tommy J. Johnson

Elder Tommy J. Johnson, age 62, was born in Austin, Texas and answered His Saviors call on Monday November 26, 2012 from his residence.

Tommy is preceded in death by his parents Walker and Thessalonia Johnson.

Tommy was a gifted musician, soloist, choir director and song writer who spent is entire life in music ministry. He traveled the world as a background singer for patti LaBelle, was in many stage plays including Your Arms are Too Short to Box with God.

Tommy was one of the founders of South High School Gospel Choir and The Young Peoples Community Choir, Co Director of the United Inspirational Choir (UIQ), The L.M. Grant Delegation, and worked in ministry at many churches throughout Columbus, Florida, St. Louis, and New York. In recent years it was Tommys joy to be an ordained Elder in The Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies where it was his greatest joy to serve in the preaching ministry.

One of his greatest joys was his children, Nichole and Tara. He was so proud of the accomplishments made by each and the gifts that God had invested in them. Watching his grandchildren Alexa and Nathanyal grow into their own also brought him much joy.

One of Tommy’s constant prayers and desires was in the words of the song “IF I CAN HELP SOMEBODY.

Left to cherish his memory, mother Ruby Veal, daughters Nichole (Pastor Lance) Humphrey, Tara Kimble Franklin, sisters Mary Eldridge-Johnson, Joyce Johnson, Ann Cox, and Nancy Johnson, grandchildren Alexa Humphrey and Nathanyal Franklin, special friends and caregivers Ruby Griffea and Elder Keith Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, The Higher Ground Always Abounding Assemblies Church Family and friends.
