Eloise Cynthia Battle née Reed aka “Lady Wild-bill” ascended to Heaven on Monday, March 20, 2023.
Eloise was born on March 15, 1937 in Columbus, Ohio to parents, Daniel Powhaton Meadows and
Anniebell Reed.
Eloise spent her youth as a proud resident of Poindexter Village, becoming a graduate of East High school in the 1950s. It was then she meet Edward Battle. Unbeknownst to both, they would end up marrying and creating a beautiful family spawning 5 generations and counting. In 1954 after a beautiful courtship, Eloise and Edward married, and became parents to four children, Etta, Edward Jr., Ella and their baby Erica.
Eloise was a proud worker of Westinghouse, DCSC, and Ohio Department of Taxation and was known to share stories about her time there with her family. She even did her part in supporting our democracy, working the polls whenever she was available to do so.
She is preceded in death by both parents, husband; Edward Sr., brother; Theodore Meadows, son; Edward Battle Jr.
Eloise is survived by her uncle; Orville Garnes, children; Etta (Carl) Ransom, Ella Battle, Erica Battle, daughter-in-laws; Pamela Battle and Leatrice Battle, lifelong best friend; Mrs. Vivian Moore and Mrs. Norma Jean Norwood. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; Aiden and Edward McClendon, Angelique Redd, Christina (Jennifer) Ransom and family, Carl (Lisa) Ransom and family, Edward (Kay) Battle III and family, John (Nene) Battle and family, Anitra Fluellen and family, Allen Ford and family, Norvida Battle and family, April and Loretta Ford. Sheree (Ron) Gordon-Jackson, nieces and nephews a plenty and so many more.
Eloise bravely and triumphantly battled Breast Cancer for 24 years, Stage 4 for the last 12 years. We
thank the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center and its staff for all their help over these 24
years, especially these last 12. Thank you also to Brookdale Hospice for your services over these past
few months. We will never forget the care and kindness you both showed our dear Eloise.
Eloise will be remembered as a staple in the Brentnell Community. As we usher her into her gentle good
night, we ask that you remember the good times, the love she showed us all as we lift her name up in
Joy. For Eloise will forever be BATTLE STRONG.
Visitation 10:00am and Funeral 11:00am Thursday, April 6, 2023 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE East, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.
Interment at Eastlawn Cemetery.
