Elwood Landers Flemming

Elwood Landers Flemming, age 76. Sunrise May 24, 1944 and Sunset November 27, 2020.

Elwood was born in Emporia, Virginia to the late James Flemming and Doris Harris (Nathaniel) Robinson. Service in the Air Force during the Vietnam War brought him to Columbus where he made his second home. Elwood retired from DSCC/DDCO, the Naval Reserve, worked as a school bus driver for the Columbus City Schools, also drove for the Patriot Preparatory School.

Elwood enjoyed several sports in life, excelling in basketball and baseball in high school, being a southpaw pitcher. He especially enjoyed weightlifting at the gym out at DSCC for over 30 years. He also enjoyed making mix-tapes, starting with eight-tracks, changing through the years with new technologies to an lpod. Elwood loved spending vacations at the beach and going on cruises with family.

Elwood is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; sons, Elwood Jr. (Carol), Brandon and Darrien; daughters, Felicia (Elijah) Boney, Donna (Michael) Person, Soleil, Iretha (Timothy) Crenshaw, Aminah (Daniel) Sloan-Phillips; sister, Anetia and brother, Michael Adams. He is also survived by close cousins , Frinzine (Luther) Hayes and Virginia (Barry) Humpreys; adopted daughters, Cree Strong and Blake Kellum, as well as an extensive, extraordinary extended family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, in-laws (mother, brothers, and sisters), nieces and nephews, friends and former spouses, Barbara House and Deborah Flemming. He will also be missed by special friends, Willie Wheeless, Seretha Terry, and Adonis Stone.

In addition to parents, Elwood was predeceased by his beloved Aunt Virginia (Ginny Cake) Walker.

Elwood believed he will see us again by his faith, in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, according to the scripture, 1 Corinthians 15, Romans 10:9, Romans 3:22-24, John 14:6, Acts 4:12 and 1Thessalonians 4:13-17. He loved sharing the Gospel with anyone who was willing to listen.

PRIVATE Visitation 10:00 AM and Funeral Service 11:00 AM Monday, December 7, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.

A MASK IS MANDATORY.

Interment at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens.
