Ernest Hamps Lane affectionately known as “Ernie” was born March 18, 1958 to Shirley Ann Lane-Williams and Homer D. Lane Sr.
Earnest attended and graduated from East High School. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at the age of fifteen. His career choice includes dog training, and environmental services. He was employed at DCSC, Grant Hospital and Children’s Hospital.
Ernest was known for his infectious smile and bubbly personality. He sentimentally was known as the “Happy Greeter” of Stygler Village, because he always spoke to everyone who entered the building. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed watching cartoons and movies, he loved cars, music, telling jokes and making people laugh, as well as sitting in front of the fireplace where he would fall asleep. Prior to his health issues he was a marathon runner and boxer.
Ernest peacefully passed into eternal life on November 14, 2024, after battling numerous health issues.
Ernest is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; Ernest and Ruby Hordge, paternal grandparents; Mims and Lila Lane, parents; Homer D. Lane Sr., and Shirley Ann Lane-Williams, brothers; Timothy Lane, Tyrone Lane, Carey Lane, Jeffery Lane, Tony Lane, Charles Lane, grandson; Aaron Butts, daughter; Tennisha O’Neil and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Ernest is survived by daughters; Lalita Carson (Shane), Sheryl Lane, Tika Lane, son; Tye Stewart, grandsons; Davante Lane, Demarkus Jackson, Jaylen Lane, Jayvaun Lane, Laramonte Lane, sisters; Dorothea Edwards, Peggy Morris (Memphis, TN), Mauldin Lane (Talladega, AL), brother; Homer D. Lane Jr., (Aleta), maternal aunt; Lynnette Carter, three great grandsons, special friends Barbara Smith, Mimi Milner, Penny Martin, Julia O’Neil, Ubah and Starr and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
