Eugene Williams

Eugene Alfred Williams 83, transcended to the heavenly streets of gold on September 14th, 2019 at 12:08 am. He fought a good fight and remained vigilant in his dedication to the Lord during a long battle with illness. His devotion to his wife and family, along with his firm belief in God kept him lifted in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace and perseverance. He was inducted into the kingdom of God by being baptized and remained a dedicated servant of our Lord and saver Jesus Christ throughout his life.
Eugene was born to the late Odell and Ethel Williams a coal miner of West Virginia and a homemaker respectively, in Vivian, WV, July 23rd, 1936.

He was a graduate of Kimball High School in Vivian W. VA after which he joined the Army and served in the Btry A 21st AAA W Bn (SP) unit. His major command was a rifle marksman as a AR 635-250 specialist.
After his honorable discharge, he moved to Columbus, Ohio where he met and married his beautiful wife & soul mate, then known as Lorice Shaw. Lorice was deaf, but Eugene saw that as no barrier to the wife God had chosen for him. He made sure to learn her language of sign!! They married on February 14th, 1960. The holy union, which lasted 59 years blessed them with 6 children. Having been filled with the Holy Spirit at the early age of 26. Eugene ensured he and his wife Lorice raised their family with patience, discipline, and humility to honor and follow God.

Eugene was a faithful member of Rehoboth Temple Church of Christ under the leadership of Bishop Spencer. He had the gift of teaching and used that gift to teach Sunday School to the young people. Eugene also served as part of the Rehoboth Brotherhood. Being of a humble and meek spirit, he volunteered to clean the house of God with adamant refusal to accept payment for what God placed on him as a ministry. He took his family with him as he traveled with Rehoboth Temple to Holy Convocations and fellowship with Gods people in various states such as Georgia and New York.

He studied at Columbus Area Technicians, now known as Columbus State Community College. Upon completion of his studies, Eugene accepted a position at Whites Westinghouse as an electrician who was responsible for the configuration of household items such as refrigerators, televisions, and washing machines. After his tenure ended in the workplace, he continued to lead and guide his family in the Lord, traveled, and never took his eyes from the cross where Jesus died.

Eugene was a teacher of appreciation for knowledge and how to have reverence for the word of God. He taught his children to read, write and solve mathematical equations. Additionally, he often took them on long family trips to see the natural beauty of God’s creation. This led third child and only son, Alan, to become a pastor.

Eugene was humble, kind, and soft-spoken. He always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He is truly and dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace on the streets of gold with the almighty God.

He is preceded in death by his daughters Kimberly Williams, Caroline Williams; grandchildren, Shermaine Williams, and Lekisha Williams. His parents, Odell and Ethel Williams; brother Bonnie Williams; sisters, Geneva Williams and Edith Williams.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Lorice; son, Pastor Alan Eugene (Delores) Williams; daughters, Sharon Williams, Trudi (Timothy) Crawley, Reva (Ricardo) McHardy, and a host of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.

Visitation 9:00am and Funeral 9:30am Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Rehoboth Temple, 1111 E. Long Street.

Interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
