Eulise Phillips lovingly known as” Nanny” aged 81, was surrounded by family when she passed away September 12, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio. Born in Bridgetown, Barbados to the late Geraldine Estwick and Elliott Best.
She was preceded in death by her aunt, Claudine; siblings, Ivan, Velda, Elton; and her beloved grandson Leon.
Eulise went to St. Bartholomew Girls’. After leaving school she made the decision to migrate to London, England where she spent most of her adult life. Eulise worked many years in the London Transport canteen which she enjoyed immensely, learning many new skills and techniques in cooking.
As a dedicated mother Eulise chose to begin working from home due to her son’s health issues. She began working from home as a seamstress, while also taking on personal clients. As long as she could put it on a sewing machine she could make it. Eulise was a very giving person from childhood, a loving mother but strong disciplinarian. She loved being in the garden when her children were younger. Eulise was an amazing hostess having friends and family over for impromptu parties.
In 1984 she again made another major decision to move to America with her children. Living in New York for many years until she joined her children in Ohio. Working steadily as a custodian for over 20+ years receiving various awards and certificates for her exemplary work ethic until retirement. She found enjoyment in teaching Pastor Diane Williams and Tanda Scott new skills in their sewing endeavors, and also others in the basic techniques of crocheting. Eulise enjoyed becoming a grandmother and great grandmother. In her later years she enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen.
Eulise was a woman of quiet strength, courage and dignity; never one to mince words, Eulise always told it like it was. She held onto her faith in God praying and reading her Bible daily. One of her favorite things to say was “In God I put my trust” she lived and embodied those words.
She leaves behind her children, Amanda and Gerald; grandchildren, Essence, Sascha, Kenneth, Gerald Jr.; adopted granddaughter, Dee Dee. She also leaves behind her great grandchildren, Leon Jr., Jai’Marie, Donnie, Khayriyah, Kai’Marie, Kehlani, Kai’Lynn, Ace; nieces & nephews, Moveta, Beverly, Faie, Wendy, Pinkett, Wallace & Keaville; great aunt to Angeline and many more and an adoptive aunt to many. Special friend and mother figure to Tanda Scott.
Eulise leaves an enduring legacy of Faith, Commitment & a Spirit of Excellence!
