Eunice Lee Jennings

January 3, 1948 — February 17, 2025

Reverend Eunice Lee Jennings, 77, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025. Reverend Jennings was born Eunice Lee Jenkins on January 3, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio to Mitchell, Sr., and Frances Jenkins.

She was a graduate of Linden McKinley High School, where she was a star basketball player, and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Reverend A. Wilson Wood. She married Jonathan A. Jennings, I, on June 28, 1969 and moved to Wintersville, Ohio, living there for over 25 years. Eunice worked for Big Bear Stores for 30 years and was a regional deli supervisor at the time of her retirement.

She acknowledged her call to the ministry while serving at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Steubenville, Ohio, under the pastorate of the late Reverend Theodore White. Since 1993 she has been a faithful servant of Mt. Period Baptist Church as a choir member, cooking class instructor, Sunday School teacher, Director of Christian Education, Vacation Bible Camp Director, Director of the Women's Ministry and member of the ministerial staff.

Reverend Jennings was ordained and licensed as a minster by the late Reverend J. Matthew Carter, Sr., while serving at Mt. Period Baptist Church. Reverend Jennings was the first woman member of the Baptist Ministerial Alliance of Columbus and Vicinity.

Whenever you asked her how she was, you always heard the same reply "MARVELOUS." And whenever she preached the Word, you always heard her say that "you have to know that you know that you know that you are saved." Whenever you were hungry, she usually had an apron on and a sandwich wrapped up somewhere. Whenever she shopped for a car, the main criteria was how many people she could fit so she could bring them to church or take them to a doctor's appointment. And if you needed to get a prayer through to heaven, she was ready!

Reverend Jennings was preceded in death by her husband, Jonathan "JJ" Jennings, I; parents, Mitchell Jenkins, Sr and Frances Jenkins; and siblings, Rufus Jenkins, Ford Jenkins and Gloria Cardwell.

She is survived by her son, Jonathan A. Jennings, II, daughter, Danielle A. Willis and granddaughter, Aaliyah Willis; siblings: Mitchell Jenkins, Jr, Leonidoff "Sonny" (Gladys) Jenkins, Warren (Charlene) Jenkins, Eleanorene Johnson, Margaret Cardwell and Frank Jenkins; sister-in-love, Saundra (Elder) Lee and Brother-in-Love, Duane Jennings and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
