Evangelist Joyce L. Carr

Joyce Leslie Carr, a vibrant and beloved member of the Mansfield and Columbus communities, passed away on October 18, 2023, at the age of 61. She was born on January 29, 1962, in Mansfield, Ohio, and was the daughter of loving parents Harry and Harriett Carr.

Joyce’s life was marked by her passion for family, faith, and hard work. Joyce graduated from Malabar High School, where she excelled academically and in various sports; she was inducted into The Hall of Fame for Track and also excelled in cheerleading, basketball, and softball. After graduating, Joyce embarked on a successful career in the automobile manufacturing industry. As a dedicated Shipping Supervisor at General Motors, she demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Joyce was deeply connected to her faith. She found solace and strength in her journey with Shiloh Baptist Church and Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, where she nurtured a profound spiritual connection. When she relocated to Columbus, Ohio, Joyce continued her spiritual journey at The Word Church of God in Christ, serving as an Evangelist and the First Lady’s Adjutant.

Joyce had an infectious zest for life. She loved adventure and could often be found cruising with her family, creating cherished memories along the way. Devoted to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, Joyce treated her body as a temple of God, engaging in regular workouts and bike rides. Her radiant smile illuminated every room she entered, brightening the lives of all who knew her. She was so proud of all of grandchildren. She was overjoyed that her grandson Jayden earned a Track Scholarship at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. She was the beloved Mom of Ohio Heat Track Club.

As a loving mother and grandmother, Joyce treasured her daughters, Rachieka Winchester and Christine (Frank) Douglas, and her three beloved grandchildren: Jayden Douglas, Kelan Winchester, and Brittany Douglas. She found immense joy in their presence and was actively involved in their lives.

Joyce also held her sisters, Brenda Valdez, Sandra Carr, Stacey Carr, and Kimberly Carr, dear to her heart. She shared a unique bond with her sister-friends, Veronika Beard, Tayna Wilson, and Cassandra Carter, who offered unyielding support throughout her journey. Reverend Gerald D. Murphy held a special place in Joyce’s life as a close friend. She will also be missed by her nieces, nephews, 4 godchildren, cousins, friends and her Word Church Family who she loved with all of her heart.

Visitation at 12:00 noon followed by a Memorial service honoring Joyce’s life and legacy will be held on October 26, 2023, at 1:00 pm at The Word Church of God in Christ 115 Wilson Ave.

Joyce Leslie Carr leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories, love, and inspiration. Her genuine kindness, unwavering faith, and infectious laughter will forever be cherished. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those touched by her presence.

May her soul find eternal rest, and may her loved ones find comfort in the legacy she leaves behind.
