Flander “Blue” Davis

Flander “Blue” Davis was born on April 3, 1934 in Blair, SC to the late Joseph and Mary (Camak) Davis. Flander passed this life quietly on Thursday, September 30, 2021 after a brief illness at Avita Ontario hospital.

In 1954, Flander moved with his parents and siblings to Mansfield, OH. In his youth, he helped on the family farm where he was given the nickname “Boy Blue” by his siblings, and the moniker “Blue” stayed with him all his days. Flander worked for several years at the Leland Hotel performing valet car service. Through the years, Flander worked as a driver for a limousine service, a cab company, Valentec Galion Inc. and Westgate Shopping Center as a cleaner. While residing in Mansfield, Flander met Dorothy Owens, and to this relationship was born his first daughter, Sandra Owens. Flander relocated to Cleveland, OH for several years and wore many hats. While residing in Cleveland, he met Ruth Holmes, who he married on May 18, 1967, and to this union was born his second daughter, Sophia Davis. He also met his second wife, Dorothy “Dot” Roberts while residing in Cleveland.

Flander and Dot relocated to Front Royal, VA for many years before returning to Mansfield. Upon returning to Mansfield, Flander and Dot were married on July 1, 1989, and enjoyed many years of raising and being guardians to his nephews Lorenzo and Alphonso Lobas. Flander and Dot continued on their journey, and relocated to North Las Vegas, NV for a short while before returning to Mansfield. Flander and Dot enjoyed many years of wedded bliss until the Lord’s calling of Dot to come home on January 10, 2017. Flander was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, and he enjoyed playing cards, watching sports, the Price Is Right and westerns. Everyone knows that “Blue” was not one to mince his words, and he will be profoundly remembered for putting anyone in their place.”

Flander was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents Joe and Mary, his brothers and sisters-in-law Alphonso (Freddie), Charles (Helen), and Joe (Bama) Davis, all of Mansfield. Flander is survived by his two daughters, Sandra of Detroit, MI and Sophia (Vince) of Cleveland, OH; four grandchildren, Donté, Danielle, DeCarlos of Cleveland, OH and Cajuan of Mansfield; 1 great grandchild, Adonis of Mansfield; three sisters, Evelyn (Robert) Thompson of Lithonia, GA, Anne (David) Brent and Yvonne Davis of Mansfield; two brothers, Spencer and LaCosta Davis of Las Vegas, NV; six stepchildren; former wife/friend Ruth Leach; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation 10:00 AM and Funeral Service 11:00 AM Friday, October 8, 2021 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 343 N. Main St., 44902. Interment at Mansfield Cemetery.
