Frank “Mike” Douglas Moon, Sr., born January 21, 1949, entered into eternal rest on December 28, 2023. Frank was the son of Rosie Mae Mathews and Frank Willie Moon, and was raised in Columbus, Ohio. He was baptized in the name of Jesus at Rehoboth Temple and was a proud graduate of Columbus South High School.
Gifted with using his hands, Frank pursued an educational path that prepared him to cultivate that gift. Frank received certifications from the University Of Illinois- Chicago School Of Public Health; The Builders Exchange of Central Ohio; the Community Revitalization Training Center; The Ohio State University; Columbus State Community College and Eastland Vocational School.
Frank was an intelligent, meek, unassuming man that had a smile that would light up a room. Everyone talked about his ‘million-dollar smile’ and the sharp attire that often went with it. He enjoyed dressing, even in high school, but what he loved most was his shoes.
In 1970, Frank was united in marriage to Delores “Dee” Marie Brown Moon for 26 years. To this union were born two children, Natasha Lynn and Frank, Jr.
Frank served his country as a member of the United States Army. He was employed for more than 20 years with the City of Columbus Department of Trade and Development as a Rehabilitation Specialist. He was an Independent Contractor, Housing Inspector, Lead and Abatement Specialist and Certified Plumber.
Wise beyond his years, Frank had a thorough working knowledge of the residential construction and housing industries, specializing in the renovation of single-family and multi-unit dwellings. He received licensure and certifications from the State of Ohio Department of Health, held a Lead Abatement Contractor License, became certified in Field Supervision and Job Site Management, National Home Builders and was a Certified Home Inspector.
He was the proud owner of Moons Home Inspections Company, where he used his passion to help others in making sound decisions when determining their home purchase. His motto was, “Know what you’re getting before you buy.”
Although he was a man of few words, the things that Frank loved were evident. He loved football, watching sports, and The Ohio State University. He was a lover of Ohio teams, except for the Bengals. While all of this brought Frank joy, his greatest love was his family, and his greatest joy was watching his grandson grow into the successful man that he has become.
Frank was preceded in death by, mother, Rosie Mae Mathews; father, Frank Willie Moon; wife, Delores Moon; son, Frank “Bookie” Moon, Jr.; sister, Brenda Turner; brother, Johnny Mathews; and father-in-law Lowell Brown.
He leaves to cherish his memory loving daughter, Natasha Jackson; devoted son-in-law, Aaron Jackson; pride and joy, grandson, Re’mon (Wicktoria) Nelson; brother, Glen (Jill) Mathews; aunt, Ruth Thompson; mother-in-law, Virginia Brown; sisters-in-laws Shirley (John), Cassandra, Teresa, and Denise; nieces, Mendel and Valerie; nephews, Rick, Jerry, Glen, Jr., Keith, Kurtis, Jr., Kendal; two half-sisters, Samantha and Heather, and the entire Washington family.
