Fred Lee Manns was born Wednesday, December 10, 1952. He was the 6th born child to Samuel Manns and Guthrie Barrett in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a friend to everyone and loved by all. He was very resourceful and dedicated to helping others improve their life.
Fred received his formal education from Barret’s Chapel School where he graduated. After graduation, he entered the U.S Army in the year 1971-1973 where he obtained several ranks. After serving his country, he returned to Memphis, Tennessee to attend Technical Institute of Memphis which from there he received his degree.
Fred relocated to Mansfield, Ohio this is where he met his soulmate, Bobie Jean Chatman, and they married March 25, 1972, and from this union they raised 4 incredible children. This also included 20 grandchildren. Fred was employed at the Richland Sheriff Department for over 5 years, then he transitioned to Mohican Juvenile Correction Facility where he later retired.
In his leisure, he enjoyed bowling, riding his motorcycles which, he joined the Easy Riders Motorcycle Club, and his club name was "Dr. Funk". He loved working on cars. He loved traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was an activate Master Mason member of Pride of Ohio Lodge #80.
Fred leaves behind a legacy of strength and valor. He entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Manns and Guthrie Barrett; siblings, Patricia Manns, Wilbur (Erma Jean) Manns, Samella (Sylvester) Wright, Dewayne (Latonia) Manns; special cousin, Oliver Shaw; and best friend Gary Duvall.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories to his life partner, Bobie Jean Manns, Columbus, Ohio; children, Lillian Lewis from Columbus, Ohio, Fred Manns Jr., Tremaine (Sharon) Manns, Lashunda Manns-Brent from Mansfield Ohio. His siblings-Carl (Dorothy) Manns from Memphis, Tennessee, Katherine Manns from Columbus, Ohio, Roosevelt (Vanessa Chatman) Manns from Mansfield, Ohio; 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grands; special nephews, Travanti Johnson, Donye Wright, Pierre Tell from California, Daniel Jones, Albert Nickols from Michigan, Darryl Moss from Tennessee, Billy Wayne from Mississippi and a host of nieces and nephews’ cousins and friends.
