In Loving Memory of George J Norris Jr.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George J Norris Jr., a loving husband, father, brother, and cherished member of the community. Born on September 3, 1940, in Andalusia, Alabama, George’s journey in life came to a peaceful end on October 15, 2023, in Westerville, Ohio. He was 83 years old.
George’s early years were spent in Mansfield, Ohio, where he attended Mansfield Senior High School, graduating with distinction. Following his education, George faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Navy. Enlisting on January 30, 1958, he served with utmost dedication until his honorable discharge on August 28, 1961, attaining the rank of SN (E3).
After his military service, George pursued a successful career as a Milwright in the automobile manufacturing industry, working diligently for General Motors until his retirement. His commitment and expertise were highly regarded by his colleagues, earning him the respect of all who had the pleasure of working with him.
George was a devoted member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, where he found solace and strength in his faith. He adored his church community and took part in various activities that allowed him to serve others and express his unwavering faith.
Outside of work and church, George found joy in various hobbies and interests. He had a passion for bowling and spent many memorable moments competing and sharing laughter with friends and family members. George’s love for children was evident in the countless hours he spent mentoring and being present for his own daughters and grandchildren. His gentle nature and kind heart will forever be etched in their memories.
George leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion. He is survived by his beloved wife, Minnie Norris, his devoted daughters: Georgia Peterson, Carla Norris, Crystal Davenport, and Amberly King; stepdaughters, Renee (Alfonzio) Martin, and Latikka Martin, Lajene Jones; He will be dearly missed by his cherished nine grandchildren. George is also survived by his sister, Mary Ellen Roberts, and his brother, Robert Gene Norris, who will hold his memory close to their hearts.
George is preceded in death by his parents Annie Belle and George J. Norris Sr and sister Sara Norris.
Visitation Friday October 27, 2023, from 5-7pm at The MARLAN GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OFPEACE MANSFIELD 753 McPherson St. (formerly Williams Funeral Services). Funeral Service Saturday October 28, 2023 at 9:30 AM at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 292 Charles Ave. where friends and loved ones can gather to honor and celebrate George’s life.
George will be laid to rest in Veteran Honors Ground at Mansfield Cemetery.
As we mourn the loss of George J Norris Jr., let us remember him for his unwavering commitment to family, his strong faith in God, and his loving spirit. May his soul find eternal peace, and may we find comfort in knowing that he touched our lives in such profound ways.
