Glenora Jordan

Glenora Jordan was born April 17, 1957, in Columbus, Ohio and was the fourth of five children born to Rev. Robert Sylvester Jordan, Sr. and Sallie Beaulah Jordan. Affectionately known to her family and close friends as “Sister,” Glenora grew up in the Hilltop neighborhood (on Columbus’ west side) where she attended West Mound Elementary School, Hilltonia Junior High School, and West High School where she graduated in 1976.

Glenora had a very hard work ethic and built a career in food service, priding herself that (as a teenager) she worked at the world’s first Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers, located on Broad Street in downtown Columbus. Shortly after graduating high school, Glenora joined the food service department of the State of Ohio – Columbus Developmental Center and retired as a supervisor after 20 plus years of service.

Her most proud life accomplishment was on January 30, 1990, the day her Son, Aaron Edward Jordan was born.

Glenora was celebrated for having a warm and outgoing personality. She loved a good conversation and never met a stranger; she was a lover of all things stylish (especially red, gold, and sparkly things); she loved excursions, adventures, and having big fun; she had a known sense of humor; loved to laugh; loved good jokes; loved to hear good stories and loved to tell them (as they were filled with amusement and nostalgia); she loved to cook and loved good food; she loved having family and friends at her home to spend time; and she was a loving and devoted daughter to her Mother. Glenora was also known for her childlike faith and optimism that was coupled with unwavering fight and determination.

Glenora received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and rededicated her life to the Lord in her adult years. Throughout her lifetime, Glenora was a faithful member of Oakley Baptist Church, All Nations Church; and at her time of passing, Mount Period Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Ron Elmore.

Glenora was preceded in death by her Father, Rev. Robert Sylvester Jordan, Sr., her Grandmother and namesake Glenora Gooch, her Brother Danny Barlow Jordan, and Charles Daniels (the Father of her Son, Pastor Aaron Edward Jordan). Glenora is survived by her Mother, Sallie Beaulah Jordan; Son, Pastor Aaron Edward Jordan (Maya); Brother, Robert Sylvester Jordan Jr., known as “Junior” (Phyllis); Sister, Sylvia “Ann” Artis (Michael); Brother, Albert Roy Jordan (Sheila); Uncle, Charles Gooch; her Best Friend of more than 50 years, Sarah Butcher; and a Family of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends – All who loved her dearly.
