Gracie Mae Turner

November 17, 1941 — July 31, 2024

Gracie (Grace) Mae Turner was born on November 17, 1941, to Elizabeth Miller and Eli Wells in Williston, FL. She was married to Eddie Turner who preceded her in death in 1995.

Grace attended Williston Vocational High School and obtained her GED from Northwestern High School in Detroit, MI. She attained an Associate Degree in Accounting from Wayne County Community College.

Striving for a better future Grace moved from Williston, FL to Detroit, MI in 1964. She held a variety of jobs starting at the Ferry Park Patent and Medicine and retiring from Total Petroleum.

She joined West Side Unity Church in Detroit in 1972, Unity of Saint Petersburg in 2004 and finally Unity of Huntsville in 2013. During her time at Unity Churches, she worked as the secretary, sang in the choir at Westside Unity, and served as Prayer Chaplain at Unity of Saint Petersburg. Over the years, she took classes studying to become a Licensed Unity Teacher while building a library of books and reference materials which she often shared with family, friends, and fellow congregants.

Grace was an amazing, loving mother instilling in her children attributes to sustain and take care of themselves. She was an avid NASCAR fan always rooting for the Hendrick’s Motorsports Team. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and watching television game shows, especially Family Feud and Wheel of Fortune. She loved music and reading. She shared her positive outlook on life with words of inspiration and motivation to everyone she knew or met. Grace always looked forward to the Christmas holidays to bake fruit cakes for family, friends, and friends of friends.

She is survived by her three children: Jacqueline F. Williams of Huntsville, AL, Gerald C. (Kimberely) Wells of Richmond, TX, Veronica F. (James) Penn of Pataskala, OH; one brother Oscar (Geraldine) Davis of Hanover, MD, and one sister Jannie Davis of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren: James “JC” Penn II (Jenell), Javonica Penn, Chanel Wells, Jarel Wells, and Grant Colbert; four great grandchildren: Carter, Jiselle, Mark Jr and Jianna “Jacqui”, five nephews, two nieces and a host of cousins and friends.
