Heather Renee (Morris) Petty Sunrise May 25, 1974 - Sunset January 6, 2025
Heather Renee Petty, age 50, passed gently from our arms into the arms of Jesus on Monday, January 6, 2025. Affectionately known by her family as Too Too, she was the firstborn daughter of Bishop William Morris Jr. and First Lady Patricia (Bonnie) Morris. Her loving parents—the two who were there when she came into this world and raised her up in the ways of the Lord—were the same two who were there with her as she stepped into eternity. Heather was married in November of 2003 to Jason M. Petty Sr. through their union they share one son: Jason Petty Jr.
Heather was a proud 1992 graduate of Madison Comprehensive High School in Mansfield, Ohio. She went on to attend college and later built a meaningful career at Mansfield Children's Services—a role she loved. Heather was also a lifelong member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. From birth to adulthood, she grew in faith within its walls, finding joy in working with the Busy Bees Choir and helping with the Children's Ministry.
Our Too Too had a wit so sharp it left you smiling and shaking your head at the same time. Her humor was effortless—never forced, always perfectly timed, and often delivered with a sly smile that let you know she was two steps ahead. Her presence was magnetic—small in stature, standing just over five feet tall with size 6 shoes, yet larger than life in spirit.
On Saturday mornings, you could find Heather cleaning her house until it gleamed or strolling the mall with her mom, sister, and aunties—where debilitating laughter and shopping bags went hand in hand. On Sundays, she was in church—and on those occasions when she wasn’t, her daddy would lovingly remind her, 'As good as God’s been to you, you ought to be the first one at church.'
She had an impeccable eye for style, always dressed to impress, with a home decorated so beautifully it could have graced the pages of a magazine. Too Too loved waterparks, amusement parks, and simply being surrounded by her family. And then, of course, there was Mickey Mouse. His cheerful face adorned her jewelry and was tucked into little treasures throughout her home—each one now a sweet reminder for us to think of her whenever we see him.
Over 20 years ago, Heather was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer—a disease that often ends lives far too soon. But God had other plans for her. While we could see her passing as a loss, let us not forget the miracle of her life. In His faithfulness, God gave us so many more years than anyone expected, and more than many receive with such a diagnosis.
Heather was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Willie and Ella Bell McCruter, and her paternal grandmother, Lucille B. Morris.
She leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy in this life: her beloved 9-year-old son, Jason Petty Jr.; her grandfather, Reverend William W. Morris Sr.; her only sister, Chantee (Sherman) Wilson; her brother, Demont Jefferson; and her nephew, Nicholas Wilson. Heather lives on in the hearts of her aunties and uncles: Gwendolyn Alexander (James), Rita Jones, Ketha Nash, Penelope Williams, David Morris, and Kent Morris. She will also be dearly missed by her loving cousins: Jessica Alexander, Carissa Nicole Gray, Absalom Dee Morris, Chandan Morris-Lewis, Montez Morris, Kenyetta Welsh, and Meagan Clanton. She leaves behind four cherished godchildren: Diego Jefferson, DaMia Mason, DeMir Mason, and DaShay Mason. Above all, she was carried through life’s hardest seasons by the unwavering love and steadfast loyalty of her parents, who remained by her side until the very end. She is also survived by her husband.
A celebration of Heather’s life will be held on Thursday January 16, 2025 at 11:00 am at Oasis of Love Church, located at 190 Chester Ave. Mansfield, Ohio 44903. A visitation will precede the service, beginning at 10:00 am.
Heather was clothed with strength and dignity and laughed without fear of the future (Proverbs 31:25). She left us all with standards to live up to, stories to tell, and memories that will bring both laughter and tears for years to come.
