Henry Sims Jr.

Henry “Butch” Sims, Jr was born in Great Falls, Montana on February 10, 1954, to Marjorie Eleanor (Williams) and Henry Sims Sr. He went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 21, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He was the fourth child from this union.

He leaves to celebrate his memory, children; Henry (Radika)Sims III and Shiree E. (Clinton III) Bryant, grandchildren; Clint IV, Serenity, and Cepreme Bryant; Kastaisja (Cameron) Harper; Kristale, Brent, and Jyrale Sims, great grandchildren; Kassidy Brant, Kai and Kaleb Harper; Jacobi, Jah’kir, Journi, and Kimora Sims. He also leaves to celebrate his memory, sisters; Veronica E. (Michael Roberts) Sowell, Venurea E. Fitzpatrick, and HenriAnn V. (Jerome) Franklin and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and many friends.

Henry accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Corinthian Missionary Baptist church by Dr. F.L. Jordan. He grew up in the church participating in the youth choir, ushering, and playing the drums. He helped do the construction and brick work on the church building renovated on East Main Street prior to the church moving to its current location. Henry graduated from Marion Franklin where he played baseball and excelled in music playing the drums. He and friends in high school formed the group called the Suspicious Can Openers winning the city-wide talent hunt.

They became the backup band for singer Timmy Willis upon graduation. He started his career working for the post office then becoming a master brick mason. He retired from the National and Bricklayers local 55 Union.

After he retired, he moved in to assist as a caregiver for his mother for 3 years. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. His favorite activities were watching the stories (soap opera), sports, movies, playing cards, and spending time with his family.

Receiving Family & Friends 1:00 PM and Memorial Service 2:00 PM Saturday, September 24, 2022 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd).
