In 1955, the family relocated to Columbus, Ohio where Jackie attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1964. After moving to Columbus, Ohio, her family worshiped with Mt. Zion COGIC, where Jackie gave her life to Christ under the late Superintendent Richard H. Holmes. Jackie loved Sunday School, and singing in the choir, she was known for her beautiful voice and lovely smile (dimples). Now she is singing in that Mighty Heavenly Choir.

After serving faithfully under Superintendent Nehemiah Howard at the Mt. Zion COGIC, her Family Church home is with Superintendent Robert L. James at The New Mt. Siani COGIC, where Jackie was a faithful, devoted and honorable servant until her health declined in the recent years.

She loved to run track in her younger days, fond of competing with her uncle, Theodore (Ted) Harris. She was a lover of children, with not just having six children of her own, she also went on to becoming a foster parent.

Jackie was preceded in death by her father, Willard D. Mayo; mother, Louise H. Carter, and her brother, Willard Dwight Mayo Jr.; son, Todd B. Johnson; and granddaughter, Toddia M. Johnson.
