James R. Benjamin

James Russell Benjamin, 72, peacefully passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. 

James was born on December 26, 1951 to Henry R. and Laura L. Benjamin Sr. in Mansfield, Ohio. He was a proud resident of Mansfield, Ohio and was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School. After graduation, James worked several jobs, until 1994 he started his career as a Corrections Officer with the State of Ohio at MANCI retiring after 20 years in 2014. James was a very outgoing man who loved cooking, listening to music, fishing and going on cruises and vacations. He loved spending time with his children and family. 

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Clyone, 2 sons James R. Benjamin III and Chadwick A. Benjamin, a loving daughter Teasha R. (Jarvis) Benjamin, 3 special daughters who loved him dearly Tameka (Willie) Burtin Jr., Latasha Windham and Latrice Briggs (Jay), his grandchildren James and Miles Benjamin, Adrianna L. Parsons, Willie Mollett, T’Shiona Benjamin, Jayla Stanford, a god daughter Essynce (Essy) Owens, 3 brothers Henry R. Benjamin Jr., Charles Benjamin, Darrick S. (Pat Lewis) Benjamin, 2 sisters Cynthia D. Kilgore and Sheila Benjamin, mother in law Azlea Washington, sister in law Argene Washington, brothers in law Lamar Washington, Henry (Dora) Washington III, a host of nephews, nieces & cousins. Special friends Nathaniel Moore, Vickie Reynolds and Mary Hatcher. His special adopted puppy Keke (who will miss him dearly).

James was preceded in death by his parents Henry & Laura L. Benjamin Sr., grandmother Nancy Thomas, his siblings Rodney A. Benjamin Sr., Sondra L. Benjamin, Clifford Wilson, Myra J. Petty, father in law Reverend Henry L. Washington, 2 nephews Shawntorio D. Kilgore and Charles (Pooper) Mathews. A host of aunts, uncles, and the mother of his children Tami L. Sims
