With heavy hearts, our beloved James Shelwin Hooper. a beloved father, grandfather, and veteran. Born on March 14, 1946, to James William Hooper and Ethel Hooper. James' unwavering spirit shined brightly until his peaceful sunset on October 9, 2024.
James, a graduate of East High School, found joy in watching western movies and passionately cheering for his beloved Kansas City Chiefs. A proud U.S. Army veteran, his service to his country was a testament to his selflessness and dedication. His greatest joy was spending precious moments with his beloved grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Dillard, as well as his sisters Bertha Cobb and Faynetta Hooper, and brothers Deleonard Myers, Jermaine Myers, and Marvin Lauderdale.James leaves behind a legacy of love and strength.
He is survived by his son Jerome Shelwin Dillard and his fiancé Brittany Osborne, along with his cherished grandchildren Ashanti Farr-Dillard, Jerome Dillard Jr., Jaleel Dillard, Jerome Dillard II, James Dillard, and Jaylen Dillard. He will be missed dearly by his stepchildren Joe Felts, Jimmy Felts, June Dillard, Annie Felts, Marshell Harris, and their families, as well as his sisters Terry Hooper, Marvetta Harris, and Sarah Brown, and his brother Benjamin Myers.
In the light of love and remembrance, we cherish the presence of James Shelwin Hooper in our lives. His memory will forever be in our hearts.
