On March 22, 2024, James J. Carter Jr. a former worker at JCPenney Logistics passed away at the age of 68. James was born August 21, 1955, in Columbus, Ohio to the union of James J. Carter Sr and Esther May Gravely. James was a dedicated faithful hard worker.

After attending high school, James immediately joined the Army Reserve where he served for six years. James later worked as a crane operator, fork-lift driver, cherry picker and warehouse worker for the next 30 years. James had the gift of Help’s. He was always willing to help wherever he was needed without complaining and always with a smile. His passion to help and his ability to connect with others made him a beloved co-worker on his job. James was a beloved husband to his wife, Elizabeth Carter. To this union was born no children. After marrying his wife Elizabeth, he inherited 3 children, Tanisha, Kevin and Justin and 8 grandchildren, Patience, Jeremiah, Emmauel, Joshua, Rebecca, Destiny, Keshaun, and Justin Jr.

After a long hard day at work James loved to relax at home watching TV, he loved sports football was his favorite season he did not have a favorite team he would often root for the team he thought would win the game. On Saturday morning, James loved watching wildlife and he loved watching the animals and how amazing they were. Early Saturday mornings when the weather was nice, he would often sit outside on his screen in patio relaxing, watching the birds while mediating drinking a cup of hot black coffee or reading or listening to the Bible or music that he loved. He loved how peaceful it was and James was a very peaceful man, he strayed away from drama, James was very active he loved riding his bike on
the nearby bike trail and he would often take long rides, he also like going to the gym to workout, to stay in shape. In his spare time, he loved to cook with all the gadgets he would buy, air fryer, convection oven, pressure cooker etc. He had lots of cookbooks that he would look through while always talking about all the world-famous dishes he was going to prepare. They were not just recipes he found in a cook-book, No! he called it his world-famous recipes. James also loved to skate which he was very good at doing.

Unfortunately in September of 2021 after needing hip replacement surgery, James was diagnosed with Colon cancer which made it impossible to do all the fun things he loved to do.

James was preceded in death by his father, James J. Carter Sr.; mother, Esther May Gravely; 2 sisters, Toni Carter and Wanda Thorton.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Elizaberh; stepmom, Patrica Carter (whom he always called mom); 3 sisters, Louis Carter, Shirley Carter, and Judy Winston; 3 stepchildren, Tanisha, Kevin, and Justin and 8 grandchildren Patience, Jeremiah, Emmauel, Joshua, Rebecca, Destiny, Keshaun, and Justin Jr. James’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the help he shared and the kindness he spread. James has fought a good fight and has finished his course and has kept the faith. “ He will be deeply loved and missed by all who knew him!”

Visitation 9:00 AM and Funeral Service 10:00 AM Friday, March 29, 2024 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd.).

Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
