James Ransom

James Edward Ransom was born on September 22, 1945 in Hale County Alabama. At the age of 5 he was adopted by Abraham and Christal Bell-Ransom. At the young age of 6 years old, he gave his life to God at St. James AME Methodist Church, where he also became an usher until the age of 17.

After graduating Moundville High School, he met and married Dorothy M (Williams) Ransom. In 1968 they moved their growing family to Columbus, Ohio where he began a 15 year career at Columbus Steel. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, joking, dancing and singing. One of his most famous tunes was “I See the Moon”. But more than anything he enjoyed reading and reciting the Bible.

James Edward Ransom transitioned into eternal life on May 3, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Christal Bell-Ransom; grandson James A. Ransom Jr.; and many sisters and brothers.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, ex-wife, Dorothy Ransom; children, Dwayne (Dina) Williams, Dorothy L. Ransom, James (Christal) Ransom, Lemyetta Baker, Daynell and Levange Erby-Baker; grandchildren, Lakeisha, Calvin, Ashanti, Ashan, Dwayne, Marquan, Cordae’, MiAngel, Titus and Gordan; and many other grand and great grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and loved ones.

Private service Visitation 1:00 PM and Funeral Service 2:00 PM Saturday, May 9, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.
