James Robert Aaron Smith

James Robert Smith, born May 28, 1925, to Helen and Columbus Smith, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024, at the age of 99.

James served his country honorably in the Army during World War II. Following his military service, he worked for Navistar (International Harvester) and retired from the Springfield News-Sun after a long and dedicated career.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 79 years, Ella Monteeth Smith; and their three children, Eleanor (Cobb) Smith, Faith Jones, and Jerry Smith. 

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Faith Jones; and son, Jerry Smith. James is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom he cherished dearly.

He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, love, and unwavering devotion to his family.
