James Thornton

James Thornton Sr. a native of Columbus, Ohio was born June 5, 1927 to the late Mike and Lucy Ellis Thornton. He passed away peacefully at Crown Pointe Care Center on Monday November 21, 206.

James affectionately known as Cool Crash attended Columbus Public Schools, and graduated from Central High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked many years as an auto mechanic, sales person and eventually retired from NAPA.

James loved his family and they always came first in his life, their needs and well-being. He was a servant always helping others whether it was taking people food, to doctor’s appointments or moving them in his truck. He volunteered at Ebenezer food pantry many years which gave him much joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucy L. and Mike Thornton Sr.; sisters Evelyn Tucker, Josephine Burden and Rachel Bradley; brothers, Herman Thornton, Nathaniel Thornton and Donald Thornton and grandson Robert Lynch Jr.

Left to cherish his memory, wife, Mary E. Thornton; children Sharon R. Jenkins, Brenda J. Green, Theresa A Ervin, James Thornton Jr. and Gary L. Thornton Sr.; sisters, Nadine Howell and Carole Darling; brothers, Mike Thornton Jr. and Aaron Thornton, 17 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation 10:00am and Funeral 11:00am Monday November 28, 2016 at First Church of God 3480 Refuge Rd.  Interment with Military Honors at Eastlawn Cemetery.
