A Prayer for the Life of
Deacon Jason Lewis
Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Because You know all that happens upon this earth, and has appointed a time for each event. You know that one of Your children, a mighty warrior, has fallen on the battlefield of the enemy. Father, the one I speak of is Deacon Jason Lewis. Born August 5, 1929 in Jefferson County – Louisville, Georgia to the late Henry and Annie Smith Lewis. Heavenly Father, You know his rearing and education which also included instruction about You and the love of Your Son, Jesus.
At an early age Jason enlisted in Your Christian Army. Father, You and he must have often talked together as he faithfully served and gained knowledge about Your word.
In 1950, You ordered a transfer of duty for this now great warrior by re-locating to Columbus, Ohio and united with the Hebrew Baptist Church, where he met his first wife, Martha Lewis and to this union three children were born. There at Hebrew Baptist Church, Deacon Lewis served in the Seasonal Chorus, Sunday School Teacher/Superintendent, a Deacon, and a Trustee.
He later united with the Triedstone Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and the Men of Vision. While at Triedstone, he met his second wife, the late Lillie Lewis. On December 1, 2007, Deacon Lewis married his third wife, Mother Ella Lewis and they were just happy as they could be, serving together as a team for the building of Your Kingdom. He retired after 39 ½ years of employment with the Kroger Bakery.
Though wounded many times as the Christian battle raged, Jason never retreated. Father, but You know that, because in the heat of battle on Friday, November 15, 2024 the enemy struck the fatal blow. And, as he had always done, Jason said his prayers to You; Father, “For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever, Amen.” Then he quietly slipped away into the sleep of death. Father, You said, “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord…that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them.” Revelations 14:13
Deacon Lewis was proceeded in death by his Sisters: Rosie Hannah and Dorothy Shinhoster; Brothers: Alvin Lewis, Sr. and Cleoris Lewis; Son: Jason Lewis, Sr. and Grandson: Jason (JJ) Lewis Jr.
The Christian battle rages on for those of us who are left behind; Wife: Mother Ella Lewis; Sons: Andrew (Barbara) Lewis, James (Ruthie) Gordon and Clarence Jeter; Daughters: Stephanie (Walter) Rakes, Rosetta (Penny) Fisher, and Marlene Jeter; Special Grandson/Caretaker: Kevin Gordon; Brothers: Rufus Lewis of Augusta, Georgia, Honora (Essie) Lewis of Wrens, Georgia and Henry (Christine) Lewis, Jr. of Louisville, Georgia; Sister: Marjorie Greene of Detroit, Michigan; Brother-in-Law: Cecil (Barbara) Howard; Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great-Great Grandchildren and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
Father, although we mourn his death, we rejoice in the promise of Your Word;
“For the Lord, Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel,
and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and
remain, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air.”
