Jessie Mae Drake

Columbus

Evangelist Jessie M. Drake, 78, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on August 20, 2024. Born on March 14, 1946, in Jackson, Mississippi. Jessie was the second born of six children. She went on to marry Jerome Drake in 1973. They were married for 19 years until his passing in 1992.

Jessie dedicated her life to being a servant of the Lord. Receiving her Missionary Certificate in 1994, and Evangelist License in 2011. During her time in Buffalo, NY, Jessie served as the Director of Administration and Director of the Community Kitchen at the James A. Dockery Community Center, until her retirement. Even after retirement, Jessie participated in several community outreach programs. She was passionate about volunteering and serving her community. Jessie served as a member of Women's Life Chapter #813 and was on the Board of Directors of Wright's Way Foundation.

Jessie loved to be surrounded by family, and she prayed over their lives daily. Jessie was the loving matriarch of her family, and she was always available with open arms, listening ears, and an accepting heart. Her hobbies included cooking, playing board and card games.


Jessie was preceded in death by her mother, Beulah Jordan; father, Jimmie Hilson; sister, Lucille Jordan; grandson, Brandon Ferguson; and husband; Jerome Drake. 

Jessie is survived by her two children, Sonya Ferguson (Larry) and Demetrius Drake; seven (7) grandchildren, Tristan (Elvis), Sherea, Larry, Whitney, Lamar, Katrice and Brandi; sixteen (16) great grandchildren; five (5) siblings, Ruth Gallman, Charles Rogers (Anita), Myrtle Jordan, and Allan Jordan; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
