John Fitzgerald Reedus

John Fitzgerald Reedus was born December 11, 1969, in Athens Alabama to Earline Reedus and the late David Lewis Reedus, Sr.

John confessed hope in Christ in his late twenties. Although he did not attend church services regularly, he enjoyed listening to ‘old school’ gospel songs and sermons. One of his favorite gospel artists was Shirley Caesar. His favorite sermon from her was ‘Hold My Mule’ which he listened to many times.

After graduating from Walnut Ridge High School, John worked several years for the Quikrete company alongside his late father David Lewis Reedus, Sr., and late uncle James Eddie Reedus, Sr. After his time with Quikrete, he transitioned over the years and worked for several other companies as a Forklift Driver which he enjoyed.

John enjoyed spending his time reading, watching action movies, news, and sports. John was a huge fan of football and basketball, but his all-time passion was watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys. He knew the name of every player and memorized every play stat possible and could easily share them with you no matter what. When it came to basketball, he shared a love for so many players that it was hard for him to name a favorite. John’s greatest love was for his family! He loved talking to his family and loved talking about his family. Whether it was his siblings -including his “grafted in brother” Mark Gordon – his children or his grandchildren, everyone could always count on an early morning text from him that started out “Good Morning Family!” or his yearly “Happy Birthday!” call that everyone knew was coming John also shared a love for ‘soul food’! He could cook, but he was particularly good at talking everyone else into cooking his favorites.

John loved to laugh, sometimes to a fault where others would just want him to get serious. But from the time he was five years old, his laugh could be heard through the entire neighborhood. If nothing else, you could always count on him to make you smile.

John was preceded in death by his father, David Lewis Reedus, Sr.; brothers, Larry Donnell Reedus and David Lewis Reedus, Jr.; and sisters, Betty Faye Sorrell, Jacqueline Lyvonne Reedus, and Janet Hope Reedus.

John leaves others to cherish his memories, four daughters, Shila Janay Reedus, Shylane Jasmine McIntyre, Johnna Breanne Reedus, and Adrian Renee Saunders; two sons, John Fitzgerald Saunders and Julius Lamar McIntyre; nineteen (19) grandchildren and one (1) on the way; mother, Earline Reedus; one sister, Patricia Reedus; one brother, Derrick (LaTashia) Reedus Sr.; sisters-in-law, Benita Reedus and Wanda Jones Reedus; uncles, Ben (Sandra) Baker and Elbert Lee Williams; aunts, Bettie Jordan, Corine (William Sue) Bridgeford, Mattie Pearl McAphee, Mary Washington, and Lucille Reedus; one great aunt, Ms. Mattie Vance; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
