Johnny Edward Owens Sr., a beloved member of the Mansfield community, passed away after a long illness, September 2, 2023, at the age of 68. Born on October 29, 1954, in Mansfield, OH, Johnny was known for his vibrant personality, infectious laughter, and his ability to bring joy to those around him.
As a loving husband to his wife Belinda “Lou” Owens, Johnny cherished their bond and created countless cherished memories together. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Shirley Owens and son, Johnny Owens Jr., also known affectionately as “Bootsie.” Johnny’s love for his family was immense, and his presence in their lives would forever be treasured.
Johnny was a man of many talents and passions. He found great joy in dancing, his smooth moves captivating everyone who had the pleasure of witnessing them. His voice was a gift that brought comfort and delight to those who heard it. Johnny’s sense of humor was contagious, and he had a remarkable ability to make family and friends laugh with his wit and jokes.
An incredibly loyal friend, Johnny was always there to offer support, a listening ear, and a helping hand. He had a deep appreciation for fashion and took pride in dressing his best. Johnny’s love for stylish hats added a touch of elegance to his charismatic persona and always carried his staff.
His favorite sayings were ” This is what I do, I don’t do this for fun” and 99 1/2 won’t do, it’s gotta be 100″. Throughout his life, Johnny worked as a dedicated laborer in the construction industry, making a significant impact with his contribution to the growth and development of Mansfield. He was employed by Ace Iron and Metals, where he built lasting friendships with his colleagues.
Along with his wife and children, Johnny Owens Sr. will be dearly missed by his surviving siblings; brothers, James (Barbara) Owens and Timothy (Serena) Owens; sisters, Jan (Greg) Woods, Queen (Ronald) Dulin-McKinney, Jill (Mark) Anderson, Sandy (Kenneth) Everson, and Rhonda (Isaac) Porter; stepchildren, Michael Davis, Katibra Beard, Marquis Feagin, Mykeshia Williams, Micah Holt and Hakeem Holt; sister in law, Ramona Owens; 22 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Louis Will Owens and Eva Mae Briggs Owens whose love and guidance shaped him into the man he became and brothers, L.A. Owens, Dempsey Owens and sister, Virginia Jones.
Johnny Edward Owens Sr. will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of sharing his life. His infectious laughter, genuine kindness, and remarkable spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he find eternal peace as he dances amongst the stars, forever cherished and never forgotten.
On Wednesday September 13, 2023, friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects during the visitation, starting at 10:00 am at Providence Baptist Church 112 W. 6th St., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am. The burial will take place at Mansfield Cemetery.
