Josephine Johnson

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting Life”.

Josephine Hunt Johnson was born on February 10, 1924 to Joe and Jetta Hunt in Vivian, West Virginia. She was the youngest of three sisters.

Josephine was a product of the West Virginia Public Schools. After high school, Josephine met and married Rodney Johnson. From this union there were four children. In 1952 the family relocated to Columbus, Ohio. Once the family was settled she accepted a position with Mt. Carmel Medical Center where she was employed until retirement. Subsequently, Josephine attended the Poro School of Cosmetology and was licensed as a Cosmetologist. Josephine loved music, especially the piano. She enjoyed taking piano lessons at the Conservatory of Piano.

As a child Josephine and her sister Ruby loved to attend church no matter what the denomination. She accepted Christ at an early age. God and family were at the center of Josephine’s life. She encouraged her children to always place God first in their lives and look to Him for direction in all situations. She was a disciple at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. Sunday worship service was the highlight of her week. She was always in regular attendance for as long as her health permitted.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rodney Johnson, Sr.; her daughter, Carol Johnson Housie; her son, Rodney Johnson Jr.; her son-in-law Reverend Grady E. Doughty Sr.; and her two sisters, Margaret Greene and Ruby Broom.

She leaves to cherish memories of her life two faithful and devoted daughters, Marva A. Booker and Jacqueline M. Doughty; son-In-law, Marion Housie; grandchildren, Wayne Housie, Valarie Housie, Donita Coleman, Tracy Hance, Grady E. Doughty Jr. and Sonya (Michael) Doughty-Adams; seven great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and a host of extended family and friends.
